Camden is one New Jersey county being hit hard by the continued housing crisis. Currently, over 2,000* homes are in some stage of foreclosure. And with the unemployment rate in Camden County hovering at 9.6%*, others could soon find it difficult to make ends meet. If you’re having difficulty making your mortgage payments because of a job loss, reduced income or if you have arrearages, there is help available.
Next week, Clarifi and Puerto Rican Unity for Progress (PRUP) are partnering up to provide critical information that could help New Jersey residents save their homes. Two free housing events are being held, on February 27th from 11am – 1pm and February 28th from 5:30pm – 7pm, at PRUP’s office in Camden.
Here’s what attendees will gain from attending:
- An overview of NJ housing programs, eligibility and requirements
- Tips and advice to help address your housing issues
- Action steps you can take on your own
- The opportunity to meet privately with a housing counselor
“We want homeowners to know that there are options available and legitimate organizations that will help them,” says Stephanie Bittner, Community Outreach and Education Manager for Clarifi. “You don’t have to lose your home.”
One such option is New Jersey’s HomeKeeper program. The program offers qualified New Jersey homeowners up to $48,000, so they can continue to pay their mortgage or make back payments. HomeKeeper must be applied for through a certified housing counseling agency, like Clarifi.
Both events are part of PRUP’s financial empowerment network. And while one of their initiatives is to promote economic opportunity and resources to the low income population, these housing events are open to all members of the local community. Additionally, Clarifi will be partnering with other organizations to host similar events in the future.
