A Record-Setting Protect Your Identity Week

November 6, 2012

Consumers lined up to get rid of their unwanted, sensitive documents during Clarifi’s annual Protect Your Identity Week. With the help of shredding trucks from Cintas, Shred-It Days were held with Beneficial Bank and Citibank. Over 8,000 lbs. of paper were shredded during the initiative.

In addition to the shredder events, Clarifi also held an identity theft workshop at the ING DIRECT Café in Center City. Attendees learned about the newer threats of mobile identity theft and were able to have their questions answered by Nick Rygiel, a volunteer with Clarifi.

The response from Shred-It Day attendees was overwhelmingly positive.

“[Shred-It Day] is one of the greatest things that any of the banks ever does,” says Bill, one of our attendees.

Others had been eagerly waiting for the chance to get rid of papers that had been piling up around the house.

“I had stuff for three years sitting in my closest, because I was afraid to throw it away in the trash,” says Tiffany, who noted the threat of “dumpster diving”, one of the major causes of identity theft.

Clarifi wishes to thank all those who took part in Protect Your Identity Week, along with Beneficial Bank, Citibank, ING DIRECT and Cintas for their support.
