Women In Transition, Inc.

Women In Transition (WIT) recognizes the growing prevalence of violence in marital relationships understanding that the problems of battered women were complex and severe. WIT provides counseling and substance abuse treatment to empower battered women to take control over their lives and eliminate their vulnerability to oppressive and abusive relationships.

WIT works to educate the public about theintricate relationship between domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse, and the proliferation of community violence. WIT’s vision is to effect social change to reduce violence against women and children, addictions to alcohol & drugs, and the resulting poverty among women in the Greater Philadelphia Region.

Telephone Counseling

Women In Transition’s trained staff and volunteers offer crisis intervention, supportive counseling, needs assessments, and information and resource referrals.


Intake Assessment

During the intake phase, a woman participates in sessions with a Women In Transition Counselor to determine the extent of her needs, the type of service best suited to meet her needs, and the help she needs to create a personal goal plan of action.


LifeLine Peer Support Groups

The signature program of Women In Transition, the Groups are a series of psycho-educational groups which focus on empowerment, education, and healing. The Groups empower women to strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem, rebuild their livesafter being controlled by domestic violence and/or substance abuse, and develop broader life skills.


Individual Counseling

Through individual counseling, women are provided the opportunity to work on specific issues or goals. They learn to develop survival skills and access community resourcessuch as job training, health care, welfare, and child care.
