We are thrilled to announce that Clarifi and our partners at the Mayor’s Office of Reintegration Services (R.I.S.E.) received the Partnership of the Year Award on Saturday night from Generocity, Geekadelphia, and Technical.ly Philly at the annual Philly Geek Awards ceremony. Our collaboration with R.I.S.E. to provide financial education and coaching services to previously incarcerated citizens was selected as “the best team effort to improve the lives of Philadelphians.”
Since 2014 our workshops on understanding credit and developing a household budget have been integrated into RISE’s effective workforce development program, which includes career planning and life skills development post-incarceration.
Last year Clarifi’s education team completed 20 workshops with R.I.S.E., serving a total of 145 people.
Samson Cho, a program associate with Clarifi’s education team, acknowledges that “it felt really good to win” the award – but was quick to add that “the work that we do with R.I.S.E .is validation in and of itself.”
“The people that we work with at R.I.S.E. are earnestly trying to make strides in making positive changes in their lives,” he says.
“We play a small but meaningful role in helping these men and women turn their lives around, but almost all of the credit goes to the R.I.S.E.-ers themselves,” says Cho. “It’s rewarding to know that the information we offer can inspire hope, make an impact and create change in the lives of these men and women.”
Aaron Williams, a Certified Credit and Housing Counselor with Clarifi who along with Cho has worked extensively with R.I.S.E. clients, describes them as highly engaged and keen to learn more about personal finance.
“I personally get satisfaction when I see or hear about RISE participants setting up one-on-one appointments at our offices to get additional information,” says Williams. “One client even told me he set up a Financial Health appointment for him and his girlfriend, because he wanted her to get the same advice and counsel that he did at the workshop, so that they can work in tandem towards a common financial goal.”
“When I run into someone that I worked with some months back, and they tell me how rewarding the sessions were and that they are taking steps to follow what we taught them, that’s a great feeling,” he adds.
“Changing lives … that’s what we’re all about,” Williams says.
Clarifi’s work with R.I.S.E. is made possible through the generous support of Capital One, Citizens Bank, PNC Bank, and Santander.
